Candle Molds For The Hobbyist
There are many different shapes in which to make candles and there are different types of molds that you can purchase.
Hobby candle makers may find that they do not want to go to the expense of purchasing candle molds, especially if they are only going to be making the odd candle now and then. Of course, if they get quite serious about their candle making that could change. As a hobby candle maker becomes more proficient they often decide to start giving candles for gifts and this could require them purchasing molds to make the different shapes they want.
Candle Molds from around the house
One shape that most anyone can find is the waxed milk carton. These are excellent candle molds. All they needs is a good wash out and cut down to size.
It is possible to use these for the basic square candle but they can also be used for making a candle with embeds and they are great for ice candles.
Another mold from around the house
If you don’t want to buy molds it is possible to pour your wax into glass jars and drinking glasses too. There are a myriad of shapes that you can use by using glass as your mold. Do check out our article on using glass for molds as care does need to be taken.
Tin cans also make good candle molds. The tops need to be taken off clean so there is no lip and then they are excellent to use.
Metal baking molds can be used too and these come in all shapes and sizes. They are very good for floating candles.
Don’t use plastic for a mold because they will melt and you will have all sorts of mess to clean up.
Have a good look around the house for molds. They need to be able to resist the heat, deep enough to hold the wax and be able to take a wick.
