Make And Decorate Homemade Candles
If you are looking for a good gift for someone who has everything, you can never go wrong with something homemade. Making your own gifts shows that you care enough to put the time and energy into something rather than just picking up a gift card on your way to the party. Homemade candles make great gifts because they are personal but also useful.
Jarred Candles
One of the easiest types of candles to make is the kind in glass jars because they do not require molding. All you have to do is glue the wick to the bottom of the jar, fill it with wax and whatever kind of scent and coloring you wish to use, and voilà! You have a beautiful, homemade candle.
You can use pretty much any kind of jar or glass for these candles, from old jelly jars to shot glasses, depending on the sized candle you want. Just make sure you heat the glass a little in the oven (about 115 degrees) before you pour the wax in, or the glass might shatter.
Personalize Your Gift
The great thing about homemade candles is they can be virtually any color, shape, size, and scent. If you know your friend has a favorite color or that they really like a particular smell, you can design your candle with these things in mind, making a wonderful, personalized gift that your friend is sure to appreciate.
Candle Fragrances
Candle scents come in everything from lavender to apple pie and are used by many people to freshen the smell of their kitchen, living room, or bathroom. This scent is the main feature many people look for when they are buying candles, and you should give careful consideration to it in your homemade candles, whether you are selling them or giving them as gifts.
Some candle makers only scent the outside layer of wax in their candles to save money, but this limits the fragrance that the candle can emit because the part of the candle that actually melts is not scented. Because candle-making materials are so cheap, it is not really that much more expensive to perfume the entire candle, and it will make it smell much nicer.
You should also not skimp on the quality of the fragrances you buy and get a good concentrated scent that will make the aroma your homemade candles much stronger than the cheaper, diluted perfumes. Even when you buy the best kind of candle-making materials possible, you are still spending less money making your own candles than your would buying them pre-made at a store.
Homemade candles make excellent gifts for family members, friends, coworkers, or really anyone. They make especially good Christmas presents because candles are a traditional part of celebrating the holidays. We may no longer put candles on Christmas trees, but they still make great centerpieces for holiday meals. Get a scent like pine, peppermint, or gingerbread if you really want to get in the holiday spirit!
