Making Scented Candles

ROMANTIC CANDLEStarting candle making is exciting.  I bet you are looking forward to making all sorts of different perfumed candles.

It really is quite mind boggling just how many candle scents there are on the market; anything from raspberry, to vanilla to sandalwood.  Scents come in almost any perfume you can think of.

This of course can make it very tempting when you are buying your fragrances, but I am sure you will work out what is best for you.

You will find that different candle fragrances suit different occasions.  Here are some of the occasions that could affect your candle scent decisions:

• a scent for a female environment
• a candle for a romantic dinner
• a refreshing candle for the kitchen
• a relaxing aroma for the lounge or bedroom
• a musk scent for an all men’s environment
• a flowery scent for the older generation
• a robust scent for the younger generation
You can see that there will be different reasons why you might choose the different candle scent when you have decided what candles to make and for what occasion.

You will have your favorites, but if you are going to give candles for gifts you can choose certain fragrances that you know the gift recipient will enjoy.

Just as a tip: men like musky smells and lemony smells while women tend to like quite a range of perfumes.

Using quality fragrances

Candle scents come in concentrated and broken down oils.  The concentrates do cost a little more, but of course you don’t use as much so it will depend on whether you will be using a particular scent very much and whether it is worth paying the extra.  I have found that the concentrates are nicer, but the cheaper fragrances are good too.

Oil fragrances might be better for you to buy as a candle hobbyist

because they can be used in gel candles and solid wax candles,

whereas scent chips cannot be used in the gel candles.
